Glenno's Birthday Present

Hey there, it was my birthday on thursday (the 22nd) and a friend of mine bought me the new SR-71 blackbird and beale AFB. I love friends. The same as Habu, i went around and started comparing the two versions. I am extremely impressed with both of them. The alphasim one comes with the ground carts included, and I get chills when i hear the whumpf of the engine kicking in. Bit of a pity it doesnt get modeled leaking fuel like the pilots version. And those afterburners.........well they speak for themselves

its beautiful mate, and stunningly realistic at least to my knowledge. these pics are of my second flight in it. The first time i flew this alphasim model. I forgot to shift the fuel around the tanks, so my climbout was all unstable. then  as i was climbing up i thought bugger it i wont perform the dipsy do manouvre to break mach 1 and just keep climbing. As i hit 40000ft still at 0.96mach i had a compressor stall on engine 1. next thing i knew the nose flew up and i entered an inverted flat spin. as i was trying to get the nose down, engine 2 entered a compressor stall. now i really was up shite creek without the paddle. took me about 10000ft to get the nose down enough to try an air start, another 10000ft to ignite both engines, and another 15000ft to get out of it and install a positive rate of climb. i think i only had about 3000ft left. my butt had an increased pucker factor.

Those are the best looking afterburners I've ever seen on a FS plane.  :o

These are cool shots but the tower in #1 looks weird...

Like it's suspended in thin air..

Certainly does work in FSX and even has fuel dump included as well as an RSO view, two side looking camera views, and an automatic screencapture the next waypoint feature (so long as you're in one of the downward looking views flying Mach 2.6+ and are 70,000 feet+ :)
