Area 51 for FS9 and FSX

Postby Ninja_Mouse » Mon Oct 09, 2006 5:57 am

Dear Sirs/Ladies

I've been doing payware flight sim products for some time now, starting with RIAT Fairford for Visual Flight, and doing numerous Aircraft releases for AlphaSim.....my latest project is Area 51 for FS9 and FSX.....and I wanted to share some In-Game screenshots of the progress so far....

This Area 51 project is also going to be alive with normal and Exotic AI, from C-5s, Janet 737s....to Auroras, TacitBlues and Blackstars....and then all the way to the UFO side of things, with "FLux Liners", "Sport Models", TR-3Bs and the like......this way, you will be able to set up Area 51 how you like it, and to your personal beliefs.....

I hope you like, and look forward to reading your comments, suggestions and opinions.

Cheers

Carl aka Ninja Mouse

PS. These shots are all "Work In Progress".....so it will get better. :)

Hi Carl, Welcome to the V.

Please resize these shots to 800 wide before Mark gets loose ... that's not a pretty sight.

Please read the rules ...

1. Use JPG's only

I like the shots and the scenery a lot!

Shots are too big for the forum though...

You must also have a killer rig to have 40 FPS with such detailed scenery ...

Can you please share your setup with us?

Hi Carl,

Great shots of the Area 51 Scenery, i've re-uploaded them for you as you've asked me to, to comply with the rules and are awaitng you in your pm.

I remember the shots you sent over a while ago of a close up of the scenery, this is looking 100x better already,

You must also have a killer rig to have 40 FPS with such detailed scenery ...

i know Carl has a killer rig, but not too sure on his specs, hopefully he'll post them when he gets back to his desk.

Keep up the excellent work Carl.

Hi All

Thanks for the positive feedback, and sorry about the sizes..I think I got them sorted now....

As for my rig........

Pentium 4 , 3.0Ghz

1Gb RAM

Radeon X1300.....

As I'm always the first to say, I'm pretty handy with the lego and crayons, but when it comes to computer tecky stuff, I am hopless beyond beliefe.....lol, so if my tech description is not as complete as it might be, please forgive me......I'm going to get this out to some testers pretty soon, and invite them to report their findings to you all......

I will say that at the moment, I'm running it with Ground Scenery Casts Shadows "ON", simple clouds, no AI, and there is NO optimisation in it yet..so in theory, it can be tweeked to run even better...(or worse) depending on how you like your sim set up...... :)

I think part of the reason it runs so well, is that there is nothing else around the location.....when I did Visual Flight London, we had problems all the time due to the built up nature of London, plus having Gatwick, and Heathrow but a stones throw away...that is not the case for Area51, so this could help explain the rather impressive FPS......

Cheers

Hello....

Me Again....lol.

Now that I think I've got the hang of the system (which I like very much indeed)....I thought I'd share some of the MAX Renders I've got of the AI Aircraft and Static models we plan on having with Area 51...there will be more, including AI F-117s, F-22s, C-5s...etc...but these represent the wilder side of things, and will be buzzing around this Area 51....

Also, I should say that the images of Area51 above, are taken from FS9........ :)

I hope you like.

Wow Carl, you've really hit the nail on the head with these shots, even though these are renders, having seen your past scenery and aircraft works they'll turn out to be even better than the renders :D.

Cheers John....

I'm always a bit worried how people will take the Crazy stuff...as people all have different ideas on what these things are suppose to look lke (except Tacit Blue).......or even if they exist at all....

My plan is to do a couple of Aurora versions, basing it on the several popular design concepts that are out there.....and maybe, just by luck...we'll get one right......

Also..some people are really against the whole UFO thing, and that I can understand, so we're going to set it up so that you can choose how you want your Area 51...."Standard" with C-5s and Janet 737s and lots of Predator/Global Hawk/ Scan Eagle drones.......or Mid Range, with Auroras, BlackStars and Tacit Blues....or "All the way"....with serious UFO and Alien action.....that way, everyone can be happy...I hope....  :)

Hello Carl, I really love your RIAT scenery and this one even looks better.  The details are amazing.

You know what would be cool? To add some camo-dudes on the hills around the area.  ;D

Any idea when this will be released?  I'm buying this one for sure.

Cheers, Frank.

Hi Frank

Fairford seems like an awfuly long time ago now.....lol. When I look back on it now, for sure we have come a long way since then.....

And as for Camo Dudes, that sounds like a great idea, I had'nt thought of that one at all, thanks..........:)

As for release? Probably about 4-6 weeks for the FS9 version, then maybe a couple more weeks to come to grips with the FSX version, as obviously we'll be able to do a few more things with that, and maybe knock up some missions to go with it, plus some more advanced animations...maybe even some animated Camo Dudes....and..er....."Outsiders"........... ;)

Out of interest......there will be a free upgrade from the FS9 version to the FSX version......as we  know a lot of people are going to be hanging on to FS9 for some time to come....so you won't have to "buy it twice"......

Cheers

Just out of interest, are you only doing the base itself, or are there other places included (like Bald mountain radar station, the North gate, Black mailbox, ...).

As you can maybe tell, I read a lot of books on the subject.  ;)

Thank's,

Frank.
