Irfanview Testing Spit, Need Feedback

Postby Souichiro » Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:15 pm

Hi Guys, after being slow and getting some commenst over overcompressing I read Kris's Irfanview tute again... I experimented with Tuning the % of quality saved when saving... mine was set on 85% default... these shots are between 87 - 95% quality with shot 4 being the 87% one... Now I've noticed an increase in size.. but do you notice an increase in quality?

That's my question...

Maybe this one would have been better In Studio V but anyway's might post a linkie there!

Looking good. When using Irfanview I tend to generally use 85-95% range, occasionally a little lower if it's really "busy".

The repaint will look nice on the forthcoming Plane-Design Mk IX. I can't understand why it's been painted with the serial as 417ML on the right hand side. British serial are always written in the XX999 format.

When uploading pics I always save at 80% quality. It saves mucking about with each and every image that way.

Great pics, very handsome bunch.

I usually post 5 shots, shoehorned to be as close to 100kb as I can, so each is saved at a different quality level. Some have to go as low as 29%. It's amazing what a difference 1% can make sometimes, with no visible change for 10%, then a change after just a 1% alteration. When posting more than five it's therefore worth spending time tuning the shots, with dark ones usually being okay with 30% quality and low size, allowing brighter and more complex ones to be saved at much higher size and quality. Another alternative is to post slightly smaller shots, maybe 700 wide...

Wasn't that just so fascinating?
