The rear tires are made of different materials because they get really hot on touchdown

Posted: Sun Jun 11, 2006 12:21 pmThe tyres are silver because they were impregnated with aluminium powder to protect while at Mach 3. The nose gear bay was cooled by the aircrafts air conditioning and didn't need the same treatment.
