Logan's run

It was early in the morning in leafy Massachusetts and all were sleeping after the drunken orgy that had been the "World's Least Serious Pilots Late New Year's Bash".

Suddenly, the silence was, as they say, shattered, by the sound of rotors....

Image

Bleary eyed, I opened the door. Leaves blew in, and with them came a couple of harrassed looking guys in suits... behind them a Bell 222 (Hovercontrol, thanks Clipper) stood, gleaming...

"Look," they said, "we know your so-called UK tour isn't over yet but we're in desperate need of a pilot... everyone's got food poisoning and we need anyone we can get. Are you game?"

"Well, as I'm already up..."

I pulled on the very smart apparel of an American Airlines captain that was offered...

"...so what's the job?"

"Wait and see, we hope you're up to it."

Image

As we flew, my heart began to sink.

Image

"Wait a minute, I've seen this before... isn't this that airport that's all over the SimV freeware forums?"

"Yep, that's the one."

Image

"Look, I don't want to be rude but there's such an overwhelming feeling of deja vu right now...I'm not sure if I can do this..."

"Do you know how much the fuel cost to get you here?" they snapped. "Anyway, you'll be outta here soon."

Looking out the window, I couldn't help but admire the amazingly complex and detailed scenery below me.

Image

"Nice ai you've got going here at Logan" I remarked...

"Yes, it's a busy airport....the airport buses work too, and there's vehicular traffic like in those FSX screenshots."

"Wow. Not many freeware airports with that level of detail...."

"Too right, you're lucky to be here. Now, we need you to practice looking dignified, experienced, capable."

"How long do I get to practice....?" I saw the looks they swapped. "Er, okay, I'll give it my best shot. Why all the fuss?"

Image

"Well, we need you to look, as much as is possible, like an American Airlines Triple Seven pilot."

"OMG! LOL! IMHO! The Triple Seven?! :o"

I felt my bowels loosen. No wonder their pilots all 'had food poisoning'. The thought of flying such an awesome machine would have anyone running to the porcelain throne!

We touched down near the machine in question... and there it was. The ground crew were just topping up the oil as we strode purposefully from the chopper, greatcoats flapping. Man, what an incredible sight.

Image

"It's a MelJet" they said. "Photorealistic textures, non-standard animations, the works...Straighten your back, chest out, dammit!"

It didn't matter that the plane was being maintained at the gate, or that the gate was misaligned, or that the plane was old news... nothing could detract from the incredible priviledge and general kick-ass nature of the situation which was still only beginning to dawn on me.

"Can I start it with ctrl-e?" I asked...

Great series. I really like the way you compose your shots. Have you already try to take aircraft photos using the same technique?
Damn good shots 8)

Thanks! :) Nice of you to say so!

I don't have a decent camera for taking aircraft in flight, and my local airport only has a few flights a day..... flying at home is much more convenient  :)

I love the way you've incorporated FS9 into "real life", as if the two worlds had become one. 8) :)

Very innovative, and a fantastically humorous story! :D
Love it! :)
