Sent to Coventry

The last shots from the UK tour before Christmas....

Taxiing past some heavy metal, the Wilga with it's queasy sex kittens already nothing more than a memory....

Image

Leaving Brize Norton in fine British style, plaice and chips in a newspaper by my side....

Image

I had to deliver this to the East Midlands airport - the pilot was due to fly it in an air display, but must have got out of the wrong side of bed this morning because he'd driven to the station instead of the airfield and got on the train for Coventry instead of taking his plane... Like, doh! I guess even pilots make mistakes like that sometimes.

His howls of dismay, forehead slapping and exclamations of "I don't believe it!!" caused a few raised eyebrows on the Midlands Express this morning... and meant I got to fly this nice little trainer.

Image

I'd best be careful here....

Image

The weather cleared up by the time we arrived at the conurbation known to Earthlings as "Coventry".
Hmm, heated windows... this Provost really is the business...

Image

I thought I'd check it out. I found myself thinking of those Polish models as I flew over these tower blocks, would certainly remind them of home....

Image

The old (bombed out) and new Coventry Cathedrals nestling side by side like one's girlfriend and her mother on a shopping trip.

Image

The flowering cherry trees were in bloom, which was curious as it was December....

Image

I'd seen enough...touched down at East Midlands Airport, wiped the fish n'chip grease from the controls, and climbed out of the cockpit, finding myself met by a very grateful old guy - 'Mr Forgetful'- who took me to the Dun Cow for a beer...

...a happy end for the first leg of my UK tour :)

Thanks for looking in :)

Very nice krigl. My daughter lives not far from Coventry. ;)

Hmm, heated windows... this Provost really is the business...

I think those are actually explosive cords to shatter the canopy just in case it doesn't jettison properly during the ejection sequence.

So that's what they are! I can always recognise a Hawk cockpit from the formation and shape of them, I've just never found out what they are for!

Nice shots Krigl, that JP is one fun aircraft to fly!

Thanks a lot all!!! Both sceneries are freeware, Coventry is available here (it is quite small though)

and Brize Norton probably too...

Thanks Hagar, but isn't that what the pilot's helmet is for? ;)

Cheers guys!

Thanks Hagar, but isn't that what the pilot's helmet is for? ;)

That might protect his head but the rest of him might be a bit of a mess. It makes me shudder to think of it. :o

It would give him a nasty headache too. Those canopies are tougher than they look. ;)

Is the Brize Norton scenery part of the UK2000 payware stuff?

Awesome shots by the way- love that Provost.
