My new GA... Carenado 182RG, flight to Kelowna

Postby Soulmoon » Sat Dec 31, 2005 10:49 pm

Just got the Carenado 182 RG in a package with their Beachcraft Mentor with some of my holiday money, decided to take it for a test flight between two of my favorite airports for GA flying to put it through it's paces... The freeware addon for Air Mountain Ranch and the default Kelowna.

Preparing for takeoff from Air Mountain Ranch at 8:50 AM, December 31, 2005. The machine was out of Mountain Dew, I had to settle for regular Coke for the flight. Curses.

The sunrise was gorgeous over the mountains, casting Seattle in warm tones. Coke was shaken from a bit of buffeting comming north over the water... Jeans now slightly damp. Double curses.

For someone who grew up in Northern Michigan, Washington state doesn't get near enough snow... It was pleasant to fly into the Canadian winter. Maybe this Coke isn't so bad. Jeans drying.

Note to self: Set cruising altitute a few feet higher next time. Still, a rather impressive view of the trees scant feet below. Glad now of the retracting gear. Pants now sticky from dried Coke. Re-curses.

Ahhh, civilization again. Plane handles well on approach... No traffic, was granted clearance to land without hassle. Out of Coke, thirsty.

Landed fine at 10:16 AM, same date. Taxing to parking now. Maybe they have a machine with Mountain Dew.

All in all, it's a great plane, and for the price I payed for a two-pack of planes, a wonderful deal. I wish the autopilot was a bit more modern, but it serves, and the plane trims fine for level flight anyhow... No major issues even with the limited autopilot.

Well......Well.......You did it!
Congrats.
She's a sweetie, and your shots look great....Airmountain ranch...Havent' been there for awhile. Maybe tomorrow.
I have almost all of his stuff....He's old school on the avionics.
I think thats why all of his planes dont' need 20 patches to fly! K.I.S.S.
His 180 if I remember right, doesnt' even have an auto pilot!
All told...you will enjoy them, they are like going out and renting a real airplane for the shear pleasure of flying!
Now give us some shot's of the other one!

Lower peninsula myself, also on LM, but up near the tip... Small town called Petoskey about an hour north of TC. Normally fly out of Harbor Springs or Torchport when I fly in Michigan, though Boz's great addons have shown me some nifty new places to soar.

Yeah, I plan to do a six-shot series of the Mentor tommorow, after I put in a few more go-arounds to get comfortable with landing it.

Very nice, I like short flights like this. I like your ground textures.  :)
