Avro York GW and FSA part 1

Well, here are my latest pics....they are a recreation of a flight my grandad made in an Avro York in the early fifties....from London to Ismalia in Egypt...not an exact recreation but just for fun :) The plane is the Avro 685 York from SimV Vintage 2002. It is the only existing model as far as I know....

Leaving London, St James' Park below....probably.

Image

The York had many parts in common with the Lancaster bomber, including the wings and engines, I believe....208 were made, according to my sources and were pretty common in the 1950s skies....

Battersea Power Station lurks below...

Image

My grandad has had quite an interesting life in aviation and it was my plan to recreate it, but none of the early planes he worked on seem to be available....I posted in Aircraft Wanted but it really looks like they don't exist for FS....

The Thames wends its windey way....

Image

I'd especially like a link to a freeware Wellington bomber... he crashlanded in them twice.... 8)

Thames Estuary...

Image

He was in Egypt during the war, servicing Spits, Hurricanes and Wellingtons (bombers, not footwear to be filled with custard).

The Garden Of England, tm.

Image

He flew out to Egypt in the early 50s after helping out in the Berlin Airlift.... and worked on the early jets, as well as running an open air cinema...

Leaving those white cliffs behind....

Image

Later he spent time in Pakistan before returning home to become a technical author working on various Rolls Royce engines... an interesting career...

Heading out over France....

Image

I remembered how Golden Wings clouds looked super-soft and the sky had a glowing ambience about it.... so I created a new GW texture folder and stuck FSAtmosphere into it to see what would happen....these 'interestingly' coloured gunmetal early morning skies were the result...

I'm planning 3 sets... the second will be over Europe, and the third will be touching down in Egypt somewhere (Ismalia doesn't seem to exist in FS9, maybe renamed? Must search)...

Thanks for looking in, comments welcome!!!

Regards

Krigl

It sounds like your grandad has had quite an interesting life. :o

Some really nice shots too. The third one is amazing! It looks so detailed with the ground scenery casting shadows, amazing shot!
I'm not really that keen on the clouds though.. They're just too fluffy for my taste. :P

All right Krigl... do me a favor, disconnect your system, put it in a box. Take a card, write "Happy belated birthday Omag". Put it in the box, close it, adress it to Omag - Ruiselede - Belgium and post it!

Thanks,

Omag

;D  ;D  ;D

Needless to say I absolutely adore these shots!

There's something magical about certain "classic" airliners. You've done a great job capturing the mood of an era gone by. Nice set K.  :)

Where, let me see.... AH!!! There it is, yes :D He's smoking right now if I'm not mistaken... :)

I know what you mean, I like them though, even though GW clouds and water have some texture issues...e.g. straight lines in both sometimes, and square pixellated blobs with the clouds... but I like the dream-like look... will definately be keeping this texture set...

All right Krigl... do me a favor, disconnect your system...

Wow, big praise from the dude Omag himself :o Thanks mate!!! But my system isn't that hot, it is the combination of Golden Wings (free) and FSAtmosphere (10 dollars...for 1mb lol) that is making these shots... :)

Thanks Fitter and Clipper too...it's an old model, no props, but I like it anyway.... :) I'm looking forward to continuing my flight tonight....

THANKS SOUI WITH THE MULTIPLE QUOTE HELP TOO... :)

Regards

Krigl

Ya know K? When you don't quote properly that post becomes reaaaallllly vague...Almost like if you are talking to yourself (which is perfectly fine by me :P)

Fantastic shots!!! ;D

You're right now I look at it, but I'm not sure how to quote more than once in one thread... I've done it before by cutting and pasting in word...but I didn't have much time this time...

Thanks for the comments :)
