Into the mouth of Hell

Where Dave decided to fly in the calm before the storm, our job is to fly into the storm and collect as much data as we can, so that maybe we will have the opportunity to save lives.
From Miami we took off the Cessna Citation X NOAA, and within twenty minutes we were already experiencing gusting winds the Citation well on its way into the mouth of Hell.

The clouds began to thicken, with sustained wind gusts of 70 mph. We knew what we were in for, and we are good at what we do!

Within seconds of entering the beginning of the hurricane the torrential rains were evident and this was just the beginning

Lightning flashed all around us as we went deeper into the storm collecting more and more data that was sent back to base.

Atlast the calm of the hurricane's eye. Surreal, knowing what was surrounding us, and what the people below that did not heed the evacuation warnings were suffering through

More to come....
Enjoy
