As some of you have noticed from my sig over the last three or four months, I have been working on a new SR-71 for Flight sim 2002/4. It has full animations, complete Virtual Cockpit modelled using the Pilots manual, afterburner effects a realistic flight model, moving intake spikes which also affect the flight performance all the way to Mach 3+ night lighting etc etc. ;D

For more info check out: http://www.alphasim.co.uk

I couldn't resist building a brand new SR-71, especially as this is the Centenary year and like Concorde we will never see this beautiful marvel of engineering in the air again..... :(

Thanks for the comments! ;)

Heres some more screenshots for you guys:

Gorgeous. How much will it be and how hard on the frame rates is it.

Oh yeah, does the avionics bay/tray extend and retract?

Weren't the tires white on these things because of the Aluminum imbedded in them to keep them from overheating?

BTW Habu, please keep the total size of screenshots posted in one thread to 500k or under.  Massive threads like this tend to slow the forums down on the server if we get too many...  Thanks.

Yes the tires had impregnated aluminium powder to reflect the heat generated by the airframe during the cruise. That combined with the titanium shroud which surrounded the tires within the fueslage made blowouts extremely rare! The front tires were protected from the heat

Just a plug for AlphaSim and Habu's wonderful creation.

The SR71 is now available from AlphaSim at http://www.alphasim.co.uk for $14

Enjoy!
