Gas guzzlers....  Comparable PWs burn less fuel, however break down allot more.

The RB. 211 isn't bad for an engine the best part of 40 years old though.

The Trents are sweeping the floor with the PWs on the widebody 'liners though...PW has now teamed with GE to bring you tomorrows engines, because they cant afford it otherwise. (Read the article The Big Fan battle in Aug 05 issue of Aiways)  :)

I have mixed emotions about the RB211. It's a great engine no doubt, but also the biggest reason why my beloved L1011 got shafted by the DC10  :-[
