Together with my trusty Cessna 150 Aerobat, the little Gyrocopters are my favourite aircraft for low-level exploration.
I've got a collection of them in my FS2004/FSX Hangar, including the lovely Bensen B8 Gyrocopter!

Nice couple of flying machines Dave.

There was a Minister who owned one and he flew it off of Floats on the Trent River.

Somebody in a small boat would pull him until he became airborne....it was only a single seat flying machine but surprisingly large.
Often wondered what the range on it was...never did get to talk to him about it.

In FS it is ok but IRL would i never fly it.
It is to dangerous.
My 83 year old father have been flying
most of his life as a pilot and agrees

Safer than a Helicopter apparently!
(Now, to me, those are dangerous!)

The Heli's main rotor is gear-coupled to the engine, so if that stops then there is nothing to keep you up in the air...and you are stuffed!!
On the Gyro, the main rotor is free-wheeling all the time, enabling lift by airflow over the blades, so you can gently lower yourself to the ground with the rotor still spinning!
The engine on the Gyro is just there to enable forward thrust via separate propeller, which also keeps the main rotor spinning during forward travel.

Hello Fozzer, don't worry about Helos, the rotor is connected to the engine by clutches and after an engine failure it de-clutches and becomes similar to an auto-gyro with the rotor freewheeling. After you experience a couple of Auto-Rotations in a Helicopter you become quite comfortable in them. [ but I still prefer fixed-wing aircraft].

When it come to a malfunction in a Helicopter my favourite phrase is always uppermost in my mind...

"Do not worry...
...do not panic...
...everything is under control....
.....trust me!"

.....!

The only time I have ever managed to fully control a Helicopter is in the 8-bit (Sinclair Spectrum 48k/Commodore C64), and 16-bit (Amiga 1200) computer games with "Invincibility", "Infinite Lives", "No Crash", etc, etc, turned on!.... ....!

I find that life is far too short, (trust me), to try and fully manage to control a Helicopter in the Microsoft Flight Sims.
Been there...tried it...got the T-shirts...failed miserably.
I stick to my faithful Cessna 150 Aerobat, with a wing and a prayer.... ....!
....and my Bensen B-8 Gyro....

All this "cycliclic" and "collective" playing with levers to control the height malarkey, I'll leave to the Heli-control Boys...
...they tell me it is easy....

..."Trust us"....They say.... ....!

NAH!.....I've never found it fun trying to fully control a; "Helicopter."....their minds are totally different to mine!.... ....!

I'll stick to things with wings...the same as the Birds....
...they got it right!
