Osprey

Postby ramsa329 » Sat Apr 23, 2005 4:15 pm

Another one of my favorites from Alphasim.

A beautiful Osprey flying out of Quantico Marine base this past winter just after a successful parachute exercise (based on a real training exercise).

Again hope you enjoy!!

Not in fs,
Due to none perfect flight dynamics, its near impossible to do this with the current fs's..

Actually Andrew you can do an almost perfect vertical takeoff with only a slight roll forward.

In any case it is very realistic to the way the actual Osprey lifts off.

Landings are another story. It takes a lot of work to get this baby to actually do a totally vertical landing.

Seems much more difficult than most rotorcraft and has to be timed to do the transition from horizontal and with great care!

All that said it is great fun to fly and the modeling is outstanding.

Get a harrier and throw the flaps down :) You'll see the crazy flaps, hehe!

Great shots! I love the last one...but what's with the shadows? like they are comin off of nothing...

Probably the shadows look strange because of the angle of the shot or maybe they just look strange period LOL

Andrew,

Is there something wrong with my textures maybe you could suggest a solution. LOL

As far as whether you consider it a true vertical takeoff or not would seem to be a moot point since that is the way this particular aircraft takes off.

In fact so does say the SH-60 and numerous other vertical takeoff vehicles.

I try to stay away from opinions about different payware unless I have them and fly them.

I really like the products from Alphasim. They are a responsible and responsive site which offer great value for the money.

and I have no affiliation with them at all

The Osprey is cool since it's so different.  That hump for the handing wings gives a reptillian look.

For my own sake after watching the conversation on this one, I see a great model with "light shadowing" appearing at the correct angles .........not that I'm an expert, but it all looks fine to me..........

.........very nice shots, once again Ramsa......... 8)
