continued from part 1
From Attu to the Alaid it is only a short hop; twenty miles. Climbing out of Attu, I could already see it in the distance.
Not far from Alaid, are Nizki and Shemya. The last is home to Eareckson Air Station.
If you look closely you can just make out its runway lights though the mist.
As I was getting closer I could clearly make out the runway and surrounding buildings at Eareckson's Air Station by Page Cline.
A US Navy frigate was patrolling the waters surrounding Shemya.
For a moment I considered doing a fly by but then I realized they had big guns on that ship ...
No time to pay them a visit as I only just began my tour. Heading to the next island ...
... which is Buldir Island, home of the famous Goose Sanctuary and the first (inactive) volcano I encountered on my tour.
Didn't see any geese or other birds though. I hope I didn't scare them away as this is one noisy Beech!
They have a very neat strip down there and a realy nice little harbour.
Heading towards Kiska Island.
Turning to the lighthouse at Cape St. Stephen.
Passing Vega Bay with Gertrude's and Jeff's Cove just ahead. Over the hills in the distance lies Kiska Harbour,
while at eleven o'clock you can see the Kiska Volcano.
Although these are pretty much barren islands the scenery is breathtaking ... here you'll find smooth hills, steep cliffs and high mountains
Last of the western Aleutian Islands and the first of the Rat Island Archipelago is Segula.
It is pretty much nothing more than a inactive volcano ... still nice though.
