An early Christmas gift for myself.

Postby Lazerbeak » Wed Dec 13, 2006 9:21 pm

Here I am, making a rare foray into the Payware forum to post some shots of my new plaything. Normally, I tend to stay away from payware, only because I really don't feel good about spending money on things for video games. However, Captain Sim's recent sale was too good to pass up. I've had my eye on their Yak-3 for a long time, and since it was now much cheaper, I thought I'd splurge a bit and treat myself to an early Christmas present, just this once. Now that I've had a chance to try her out, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and the low price keeps me from feeling guilty. I took her up for a quick flight over (a very, very foggy) Surgut, and thought I'd share some screenies. Comments are very much appreciated.

I love the texture work on this thing, the weathering effects really make her look like she's seen better days.

I love flying over Surgut, plenty of lovely forests.

Testing out the functioning guns (this shot doesn't do the effect justice, it also has muzzle flash and smoke effects and some marvellous sounds).

A view of the stunning VC.

And finally, an "actiony" shot to spice things up.

All in all, I'd say this was money well spent. It's every bit as fun as I thought it would be. I was also extremely surprised at the framerates I got with it. I was expecting huge stutters on my aging machine, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it runs as smooth as silk (even in the cloudy weather seen in these shots).

Very nice, and if it's still cheap when tomorrow comes I'll be getting it too, looks great!
