The captain's a little rusty taxiing the DC3; just came of a copilot post in DC4s for another airline, and other than recent refresher, hasn't flown the "Gooney" since the war. Very tricky job without using brakes too much (wears out the tires). I really need to get a split-throttle setup; it's vital to use differntial thrust for taxiing this plane, and it's a bear using keyboard to select engines... have to anticipate and apply just the right amount of power at any given moment. Maybe meantime I can program some stick buttons for this; might help.
In position now; time to turn on fuel boost pumps, landing lights, cabin signs, etc... and mustn't forget to lock the tailwheel!!
The excellent 2D cockpit is totally clickable, but sadly the VC cockpit is not... yet.
A very nice takeoff- easy with only a mild crosswind, and despite the high field elevation and a full load, she settles into a 120-knot, 700-fpm climb with no fuss. Next stop: Powell, Wyoming!
Next: VFR to Powell
