Vista Australis 6 - High and heavy

Postby krigl » Tue Jan 03, 2006 5:01 pm

Here's the last set of my quick dip into Vista Australis, or VOZ as the kids on the street are calling it.

This set is dedicated to all the heavy metal pilots who might be wondering what those textures look like from FL 360....

Leaving Darwin

If you'd like to see what VOZ is like up close and personal then check out the other 5 (! ::)) posts....

1. The south.... Blue Mountains, Sydney etc... HERE
2. Melbourne scenery HERE
3. The empty west... arid deserts... HERE
4. The steamy North...Queensland and the area around Darwin to the west HERE
5. The flat and dusty south west, including Perth HERE

Over Alice Springs

When choosing what texture set to use with the VOZ switcher it may be useful to consult a climate map of Oz in an atlas...

The southern bushlands. The tiles don't repeat obviously like the default ones do... but they can look a little strange and blotchy.

Looks good... is good... one minor setback... it removed MY WATERTEXTURES! ... and replaced it with some crappy ones... affected the entire globe... installed them again... Omag happy...  ;D  ;D  ;D

But still... VOZ is good!   ;)

Top notch shots, Krig. :)

Is that the iFly 747? If so where did you get the replacement textures?

Thanks!!!

Omag, yes, the VOZ switcher changes the whole world, with mixed results... areas with default landclass can look really terrible, the Grand Canyon is nice and red but the Eucalyptus trees around it look a bit funny. And I suspect when you "unvoz" then it returns default water rather than the textures you put in, but I can't confirm that...

Rimshot, sorry, not the iFly 747, they are from POSKY or other sources, all freeware.

Spyro, I couldn't believe the Australian Alps exist either, but they do, and lie in Victoria to the north of Sydney...

Final thoughts:
If I were flying into Australia in an airliner I'd probably choose the texture set corresponding to the area where I was going to land, even if I were flying over a different climate region...

...when over the sea before Oz I'd pause the sim, VOZ-switch the textures, unpause, change to a different season, change back to this season/date again, and the VOZ textures would be waiting at the airport ahead... a bit inconvenient, but only a bit.

However, I think VOZ is most suitable for low level flying only within Oz, preferably within one of the vast regions only... and if you have a great set of water/terrain textures, keep the files to hand so you can put them back in the sim after unvozzing... :)

Happy flying Down Under and wherever!
