Lazy Days

Postby Rifleman » Mon Sep 15, 2003 1:23 pm

On a nice warm summer day, you will find all sorts of thermals to make use of, if you decide you would like to take a quiet trip to Seattle.........all you will need, is to gain enough alt to do the out and return......12,000' to start, and you can get back to Emma with 3000' to spare.......I went online with a friend to make the trip a little more fun.....

Waitin for a winch, while some others pull up and rig for flight........
Image

The field boss is checking out the "ready line".........
Image

Finally, we are both in the air, and working the first thermal to get some height..........
Image

Over the clouds and off we go...........
Image

Quick photo of the "Space Needle" to verify we have made half the trip....9000' on the Altimeter and turning for home..............
Image

Making a run over the last ridge to get a bit of slope lift, to ensure we can make Emma.........
Image

Looks like we made it with plenty to spare, so lets pop the spoilers to begin our descent.........
Image

Over the fence, and avoid the "launch" truck and we set down short so its not a long recovery before takedown.....
Image

One of our friends made cloudbase over the Emma Floatplane base, and it looked like this from his chase plane............
Image

Another friend with a two-place Grob, had this shot taken of Emma from over the clouds, while giving an intro flight...........oh the serenity.....

Fabulous shots and a great storyboard Ken. I was watching some gliders yesterday whilst out with Agi for a walk and was thinking of you.

Really nice Ken. I got a feeling of floating amongst the clouds!   ;)

Nice shots of the scenery and your "pals" you went up with!

I think I might really......."break down"........... and give the glider a try. From driving a big bus........to floating in the sky.
I think might be dustin' off the ol' glider tonight!

... they look rather good .... and fun too .... but when I have been gliding for real it was far from a lazy day .... mind you I had nearly as much fun driving the winch and fetching the wires ! .... I love a powerfull motor ...... each to their own, but v.nice pics all the same.  ;)

Awesome Ken! I am not much of a glider fan but that makes me want to take one up for a spin!

There is a certain something in having a pop-off at 800' from the winch, and then breaking into a low-level thermal and working up to cloudbase, or better yet, go right through the clouds and circle up to 15,000' and take off on a cross country trip.........just remember to leave 60% of your alt for the return trip so that you don't "land out".......... 8)
