Nice shots Trucker a Dc3 on Skis, only time I saw a Dc3 on skis was an episode of Ice pilots landing on a frozen lake.

Hi Dave... <<u

We flew the Douglas DC3/Dak from Freeze Up on the Lakes and Bays until the Thaw/Ice Break Up.
Many of our locations had no runways... DEW Line Military Stations (Distant Early Warning) had hard surface runways but many of the old Hudson Bay Outposts we flew too did not.

When the ice was gone we flew the Pig Boat (Consolidated Catalina/PBY5A/Canso) on the same runs we did with the DC3/Dak.

We did Six Scheduled Runs Daily and Charters. Most Charter Flights were for the Construction Companies, Universities and Seasonal Hunters/Fishermen plus Medevacs.

I did both Scheduled and Charter Flights, many times if we were not carrying passengers we got away without having to put on our monkey suit, passenger runs you had to wear your uniform.

We tried like hell to get rid of the DC3 and purchase the DeHavilland of Canada Caribou and later the Buffalo but the Canadian Government would not release them to civilian companies. It took years to get the Lockheed C130 released to fly in civvy livery here. The Caribou was twice the aeroplane on wheel/skis as the DC3 and you did not have to load and unload up hill and downhill which could be dangerous on a snow covered deck.

Today most of those locations have hard surface runways.

All the aircraft I Captained had the following wheel/ski settings for skis:
-Full Up ski
-3/4 ski
-1/2 ski
-1/4 ski
-Full Down Ski
There was a Use for each setting.

I notice they do not have Ski Settings on the Flight Simulated Aircraft...

What model DC-3 is this? The Fin & Ruder are kind of different from DC-3's I've been into as passenger

Thanks Jean for the reply... ;)

This model is a Texture Repaint of an Awesome4Some on wheels/skis...found here at the Simviation Download Site.

The nose is different as well, not as rounded and a little longer I think.

Perhaps a Douglas DC-3S
