I've had a busy day: replacing one of my hard drives, switching out of Prepar3d V2.5 to V3.

Watching a YouTube video about the development of the DC-3, and then reading a VERY useful website.

I started with this webpage - Landing ... FSX.

And that got me to thinking about landing a DC-3 on the 2,609 foot runway in my adopted airport - Mears Field (3W5) in Concrete, Washington.



I know that this isn't anything that real DC-3 pilots couldn't do easily, but I'm not that good of a pilot.

Heck, when I first started with FSX I COULD NOT land a Cessna 172 on the main 10,506 foot long runway at KPHL, Philadelphia International Airport.

It didn't help that I didn't know how to brake.



So here I go. Up, out, around, and back. Landing my Douglas C-47 Skytrain V2 in about 1,000 - 1,200 feet. Thanks to the website above.



The trees look closer than they really are.


This purple tint is part of the plane. It was the same in FSX too.

Concrete, Washington ahead.


Runway now in site.

On the money!


A complete stop just before the middle of the runway in two attempts.


If they would fix that purple tint I'd use this plane much more.

BTW - Concrete, and the area around it, looks much better than this. I just forgot to switch Orbx to North America before the flight.

Nice shots its surprising the small airfields you can get a 3 into, this might be more of a challenge in a 3 found it by accident 3M5 by orbx.

Actually, the 3M5 Moontown Airport runway outside of Huntsville, Alabama is 2,180 feet long. Only 429 feet shorter than Concrete's runway.

What I find amazing about 3M5 is how beautiful the scenery is in the area.

That's definitely a good find on your part.

I know absolutely nothing about sailplanes and soaring, but that looks like a great place to do it in.

This also took me two attempts to land. Not being familiar with the area, I flew past the runway on the first attempt.

I particularly like the close up of the Dc-3 it does have a purplish cast to it.

You must have the free Orbx airport scenery.

What does it look like outside of the airport area?


I'm using Prepar3d V3, and technically there's no installer for that yet.

Not that it can't be gotten around easily enough.

Either way, it's a nice location.

Your scenery looks a lot more open and nicer than mine, I have horrible autumn seasonal textures and lots of trees.

The VC on your DC-3 looks a lot better than the default one.
