Mi-8 Landing in Afghhanistan

Postby zulumike » Wed Sep 22, 2010 9:08 pm

This is the russian Mil Mi8 "HIP" transport helicopter landing in rugged sandy terrain, somewhere in Afghanistan. There are several nice detailed models in this download. The flight dynamics are ok, it flies heavy on my computer.

Credits: The aircraft is a free download from Simviation

Scenery: FSX default scenery, Bagram Afghanistan

Thanks for looking.
Cheers, Mike ;)

Ditto! Like the first one Mike. :)

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Excellent job on that 1st one! And while I do like the ink sketches, in this case #1 really is #1!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Thanks guys for the comments. Appreciate the feedback. Great Forum.

This was a fun project. It all starts with a good model. The chopper has some nice detail, but added black exhaust and oil stains to give it a used look. Probally should have added paint chipping more fading but may try that effect later. The swirling sand effect is done by adding several layers of color and bluring effect. This project was edited by free Paint.Net. This editing tool is easy to use and can provide a lot of effects.

Cheers, Mike  ;)

interesting fun fact: while in iraq, i was able to go to the iraqi air force side of our base...they repair their mi-8's with soda cans...(yes, the rotor blades too)...true story

Thats because they were designed to be repaired with scrap aluminium sheets.
Also, the engines are running at about 60% of their max output (they kill the tranny with both at 100%) so you can keep flying on one working engine
