On May 27, 1944 Capt. C. E. "Bud" Anderson's flight of P-51B Mustang's encountered BF-109's while escorting bombers to their targets in Germany.

Just after recording his 6th kill in aerial combat during WW2 he spots 2 more BF-109's in the distance. As one of the 109's dives for home "Bud" pulls up and chases the leader. "This one can fly" as soon as Bud starts chasing the 109 pilot reverses and is now on Bud's wingman. Bud turns and engages, the 109 dives Bud overshoots and now has the 109 bearing down his 6.

In a vertical climb with no where to go the 109's 20mm cannon bearing down on Bud's P-51 with nowhere to go but up. As Bud looks back he can see the 109's plane shuddering but the 109 just can't lift it nose up to bring the cannon to life.

After stalling out now with the P-51 on his 6 and in a near vertical climb Bud fires from 300 yards and hits the 109 dead on. With the 109 smoking Bud's momentum pulls him up besides the 109. He looks into the cockpit and sees nothing but thick black smoke, a few seconds later the 109 stalls and plummets towards the ground from 35 thousand feet.

This marked Capt. C. E. "Bud" Anderson with his 7th kill. He would finish the war with 16.25 kills to his name.

Enjoy

Great shot. And the history behind it was a nice touch. Personally, I'd like to see more of that. :)
