Hello gentlemen,

took a while for me to get back here as I haven'T had much to show. Aynways, thought I should present my most recent one caled "Burma Dawn" showing three AVG P-40s breaking away over Burma's beaches while the sun just looks over the mornign mist.

Now that is good! very good

I really like the soft lighting - perfect. The composition is also nigh on perfect.

There's a lot of really lovely detail work in there, I would think at full size it is easier to appreciate the work that's gone into it.

Thanks

Even better full size. The edges of your aircraft are perfect.... are you drawing them?

A very skilled and well put together picture.

Thanks again.

Well I started to hate jaggies and so I'm putting a lot of work into getting rid of them. I do this in a few steps. The most important is already to get a clean cut from the game using paths. In that step I already get rid of polygon edges too and cut round surfaces as they are meant to be - round. All odd hsaped polygons and even panellines etc are redrawn to get the original round look rather than the polygonal one.
Step two is picking a small and feathered eraser brush of low strenght. I use this to go over the boarders of the plane to let the background color shine through. That helps to blend into the background and gives the impression of the backlight sneaking around the surface as real light does. Very careful here, if you overdo it it looks too "ghostly".
Basically the last step is going over the outlines of the plane with a very small blur brush, again feathered and of low strenght, to gently smooth out the edges. Again, if you overdo it you might lose all sharpness so better do it with real low strenght but more repititions. furthermore the diameter of the brush should be just big eought to touch the background and the plane 50/50.. in this image I did not use a brush larger than 5px.

OF cause I am doing that not for every edit. Just for those which receive more attention by me. I still like unedited ones whihc only reflect the artifical beauty of the game or jsut slightly "touched up" ones.

This one has also been treated that way. Only as link as you guys know it already I suppose:
Fargo Express Redux

Hope you guys didn'T fell asleep now  :-[

HAts off!

Fall asleep! are you kidding, I could read great advice like that all day.

Now I have a new direction to follow, new things to try.

Like others I have become absorbed by trying to better myself in this medium. It has so much to offer.

Many thanks.

John

Oh I'm glad!

Indeed, it can easily become a fully featured addiction ;)
I do this since 2004 now and still really fascinated when I by other'S work and satisfied if my own work turns out nicely. You can learn so much. I found a great edit of a DHL 757 on a cold apron being prepared. It was a great edit with an enormous attention to detail and I found myself trying to get this or that look too :) Always inspiring!

You might want to check SSP, as in my signature, if you like looking at that sort of work. Quite a handful of talented guys around there and we're always happy to see more :)

Beautiful as usual 9th. :)

I want one like that with ME-109s instead of the P-40s.  :)
