Sweet IC! Maybe taper the smoke trails more to they are real thin and disappear? Probably do this by putting the smoke trails on a seperate layer, each color, then use motion blur in the direction the plane is coming from and adjust the blur accordingly, and when they are on a different layer you can erase parts of the trail to do even more adjusting.
