15th May 1941

Dear Mum and Dad

i'm sorry i have not answered your letters diligently, but i was transfered to Cranwell to assist on the final assembley and trial runs of the newest technology available developed by Dr.Frank Whittle and associates, they say that this could change the course of the war, i dont really see how but i am hoping for the best. to be honest i never thought this would fly, for starters it has no prop! the Gloster lads were, and still are very excited about this new project. and so is Mr.Whittle. today they had their first flight, i managed to snap these two shots of the noisy gloster jug taking off and landing, she was giving me a hassle because she was flying so fast! Mr.Sayer took off after a ground run of about 600 yards, he came back about 20 minutes later, and reported the plane was rather quiet (not for me) stable and fast. i feel i had done my part on this crazy project, and i just hope that the money spent on this wont be needed more by our boys in Hawkinge instead...with this money, several spitfires could've been bought. but i imagine PM Churchill knows what is best.
