I will "grade" you on this 1st edit! LOL  ;)

Picture #2 IS the real looking one. The reason is this....
In picture #1, you should be focused on the aircraft, thus the foreground would appear "blurred" as your camera moved with the aircraft.

In picture#2, you are moving with the aircraft, thus the foreground is "blurred".

Keep it up, oh #1 looks as if you were into the Capt. Morgans!  ;)  (Notice how You can't focus on the subject! LOL )

But what if the camera was not moving and the plane went by? Would not the plane then be blurry and the background clear?

I guess it depends on how you take the picture..


p.s. And no, the captain did not rear his ugly head this time....(repeat...THIS time)  ;)

Exactly, It is how you look at it. So, both are correct! You were taking a picture of the beautiful building and all of a sudden, a Baron came zipping by, thus the camera would not have time to "react" to adjusting it's settings giving it the "blurred" effect!

OK..OK... we are looking at this too deep!!

The first one is what I would call a "tri-pod" shot....as you may be using a small aperture to gain depth of field in an attempt to have maximum sharpness throughout the entire frame (Damn plane zipped by real fast right in the middle of my 1/500 exposure and wrecked my shot !)
