The beautiful sky

The aeroplane, airplane, aircraft or flying machine. Whatever you wish to call it, these streamlined silver birds or speedy sky sharks have for a century captivated mans imagination.

For me my imagination was captured as a child by the swing winged F-111E and the EF-111A the so aptly named "Whispering Death". Either inbound or outbound Upper Heyford these sleek wonders buzzed my house daily causing me to point my eyes skyward, time after time for a view that was never the same.

After a time I realised that it wasn't just about the dynamic marvels that ripped the sky it was about the element itself. The big blue sky with all its violence and beauty. This was what captivated me! The freedom in which to move, the possibilities that would open in front of me and the 3 dimensions to master. Hurtling through cloud not knowing what's hurtling through the other side, taking a look at mother Earth from a different perspective and a whole new environment in which to play and explore because the child will always be within me.

The beautiful sky!
