Beautiful Dawn

Postby 9thSimplex » Thu Mar 22, 2007 3:12 pm

Hello gentlemen!

I'm kinda sad the seminar won'T take place :(

I had to move for my first job after university and eventually got all my stuff together now and start to feel comfortable in the new home. Time to get back to the drawing board I thought and here we go.

To get back into it I chose a flight in one of my favourite regions, the vancouver area. Nothing beets how the hills roll into the sea there! In the threads for the now cancelled seminar I read that krigl was interested in how to get backlight effects like in my FedEx shot so I gave it another try:

click for 1280 wide version

It was really simple, I took the original shot, duplicated the layer and set the blending mode of the new layer to color dodge, reduced it'S opacity and there you are. Some minor cleaning and the basic shot was done. Do get the undersurfaces iluminated a bit I took the path tool and layed down a path at the bits that were meant to be highlighted, chose a dodge tool of 3px and "lights" setting and filled the path contoures with it. I repeated this until the regions' brightness met my imagination of the scene. Some minor highlight brush steaks with a 1px "light" dodge and it was over.. That'S it.  :)

Cheers!

Thanks for responding and for the tips!!  I will have a go at such a shot myself  when I've got more time......not sure if I'll manage to do such a good job, but will do my best  :)

Very nice atmosphere there!
