It is that FS98 for some reason freaks out with DX9 otherwise i would have installed it for some very good planes that were available (the famous 747SP for example)

I was thinking about upgrading to DX9 (at present I use 8.1) but it seems it's a bad idea then. What are the issues with 9?
About the 747SP: is it the Pan Am B747sp by Marco Bianchetti, found at flightsim.com?
I'd really appreciate if previous FS98 users would take a look at my topic

to suggest what in their opinion was the best aircraft for this simulator, because I'm having a hard time finding real good ones. So far I've only found a couple, the others are "so and so".

GF4 + WinXP + DX9 + FS98 = overflow in the display counter and overall bad framerates.
Works OK on Win 98 with a TNT2 though as long as you use old drivers
