my first try...w/ a question

Postby 14-BIS » Thu Jan 08, 2004 8:15 pm

you all have seen tha video where a guy filmed a engine on flames from inside the plane...a lot of people screaming in spanish and the pilot was able to land the plane and there were only a few cuts and bruses.....my question is...what if the fire was as bad as on my screenshot...would the pilot be able to turn around and land? ??? ???...ive heard that some pilots actually fly on one engine to save fuel....but flying w/ one engine is one thing...but w/ the other one on fire....thats another story...
also...i nedd comments on my editting job...i would like to get really good at it
thank you

Okay, here's the resize.  It was too large for the forum (1024x768).  When you upload an image here, make sure you resize it to 800x600.

And when you put the code in for the image, there can be no spaces, which is why it didn't show up in your post.

To answer the questions, pilots have ways of extinguishing fires in engines while in flight, so unless it was a HUGE incident, they could probably extinguish the flames, kill the engine, and return to the nearest airport...nice shot btw.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Since the fire occured during takeoff leaving one engine inop, this could be more dramatic than would it had happened during cruise, for example.

On the 737, 2 fire discharge bottles are provided for each engine, and that's usually more than enough to put out the fire.
I wouldn't worry about flying with just one engine, jets are built to manage that.  My biggest concerns would be if the fire has damaged any hydraulic systems, hence leaving me with limited control surface operation
