C182Q with added foreplane

In front of the cab is a yellow bit on the bottom blue stripe....this is a pair of foreplanes....

Anyone have an idea why they are needed?....it came up on another message board and I'm curious as to the reason for adding the extra foreplane.....

Mmm, interesting, and at the moment, not really - certainly not with an agreed* logic yet... :)

It's made for extreme STOL ability.

This STOL mode is called the Patterson 260SE. Here is the literature:

One of those is a regular visitor to Popham. I've posted photos of it here before. Here's a couple of recent ones.

The owner told me it improves take-off performance considerably. This is useful as he operates from a small field. He also said that it takes off in a level attitude instead of nose-up.
