Hey all, been REAL busy lately, haven't been posting much...

We did a wind tunnel test of an F/A-18A in my intro to aerospace engineering class and part of the *cough* 20 to 30 page *cough* lab report is finding the actual numbers on the F/A-18A and using them for calculations and comparison.  My graduate teaching assistant told us to look it up in Jane's All the World's Aircraft.

Went to the library and guess what I discovered?

We have practically every edition of this huge book, with a few from VERY early (earliest is 1917, there's 1930, 38, and some in the 40s).  Basically every edition from 1950 on

SO if you want any info, let me know what plane and approximately what year and I will try to go and scan the page for ya

I have a quick question, this set of book you write about, does it cover the history of the entire world's aircraft? If so, can you kindly look up the Tupolev Tu-160...Can't find anything reliable on it...(No, Wikipedia is NOT reliable)

IIRC, the -160 is the B-1 look-alike, so that would put it at early-mid 80s.

God, what am I getting myself into... ME engineering major next year with ROTC on top... possibly an AE\ME double major.

EDIT - had to use \ because the forums recognize "/ me" as a command now.

Oh boy, a new crop of engineers coming up! Engineering can be a tough one and it's not everyone's cup of tea. Within the first year or two you'll know if it suits you or not. I wasn't a great student in high school but after getting my butt kicked the first year in AE (and ROTC) I got into gear real quick.

My advice for you new guys is not to miss out on all the fun college has to offer and all the great friends that you'll make, but do know that there will be times that you need to make sacrifices to succeed. The key is finding the right balance. There will be times that you are overloaded and stressed out but if you push through it's all worth it in the end. At least it was for me anyway. Advice for ROTC: If you're doing engineering in a ROTC heavy school (like Riddle) take 5 years if at all possible. In big ROTC schools, for your last couple years it will be like working a part time job. I got sweet talked into doing an AE major in 4 which made my last semesters a mad dash for the finish.

Anyway, Jane's is a great reference book for general stats if your library has them. Detailed specs are a bit harder to come by. If you've got a few dollars to spend you can buy yourself a flight manual. For U.S. military aircraft look up the "-1" or "dash one" which is like a super POH for military aircraft. Commercial aircraft have similar operating handbooks as do foreign aircraft (though you probably need to read the language to get any use out of it). A good place to get those is here:

Well, maybe there are a few critical people around here.  I suppose he just couldn't shrug it off, I am suprised that many people had a beef with him.
