Ohhh, I though you meant THE Lightning....
Just kidding, I like the second one there, it was cool to see the vapor forming in the inlet when he throttled up. The music was kind of weird though. :-?

I think they were a bit late naming the F-35. Just like the Typhoon, which people will always know as the Eurofighter as well, the F-35 will end up still being the JSF to a lot of people...
That and both were named after infinitely superior aircraft. I still expect to see a Hawker Typhoon when ever posts pictures with Typhoon in the title.
Hmm, the F35 hasn't even entered service yet and already it's quite reviled. Anti-American bias perhaps?
Still, I hope the F35 never gets the opportunity to earn the battle hardened devotion of planes like the original lightning and typhoon earned.

Nope, you just can't beat a P-38 or EE Lightning - two of the most charismatic aeroplanes the world has ever seen.
I think the fact that the F-35 is the only vertical take-off, supersonic stealthy fighter (among other things) counts for something. Maybe not as much as the attributes of previous Lightnings, but still something.![]()
I'd like to know where you got your crystal ball from. The plane is still in development and the VTOL variant hasn't even flown. Actually I don't even know if the VTOL varient is in to SDD yet (I only have a passing exposure to our company's contribution to the plane and it isn't effected by the variant produced). At current weight it may not be able to do it but since it's still on the drawing board the weight will change. Thankfully the VTOL plane isn't entering service tomorrow, in fact all variants are still some time away from entering service so expect changes.
