What's your favourite nightfighter of WW2?

Personally I say Bf110s (especially G-4/R3) are best, along with He 219s (especialy R-7s).

And British vote goes to Mosquito and Beaufighters.

The ones I voted for I consider the most sinister.

Pics for the planes:

Messerschmitt Bf110

RAAF Roundels -  Are you referring to the Defiant picture?
If so, I'd guess its the exposure of the picture thats made the red appear lighter than it is... Interesting to see that 264 Sqn had roundels with no white band on the fuselage but still had the yellow outline on the roundel and the white band on the fin flash...

Beau or Mossie gets my vote...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........

....are there geographical limitations to your poll?

I would hope that one of, if not the only, aircraft of WWII, designed specifically as a night fighter, might have made the list?.?..   ???

                    p-61....anyone?

                                       Bueller?.........Bueller?

As far as I know, the only aircraft specifically designed as night fighters that saw production/service in WW2 (as opposed to variants adapted for night fighting) were the Northrop P-61, and Heinkel He 219.

To the list, however, you'd have to properly add the radar equipped F6F (Hellcat) and F4U (Corsair) variants of the USN, used in the Pacific.

I want to be weird...so instead of the P-38M, or the P-61...

I'm going to say....

The Havoc Turbinlite/Hurricane pair.  :)

A Beaufighter made the first night intercept using radar in 1940, but as a nightfighter I reckon that the Mosquito is top dog.

HELP! My thread is falling and it can't get up!

Since this thread seems to be gasping for air, I'll attempt a little resuscitation.....

Since I always like to learn new things and because of my penance for debate, I did a little research;

http://www.kotfsc.com/aviation/he-219.htm

The first one is just interesting. It would be great to see the thing reassembled.

The second link goes into the history and has some great pictures.

According to that site (I know......don't believe everything you see on the internet!), the 219 didn't

Being too nosy for my own good I'd really like to know what I don't wanna know about. ;)

Your image seems to have disappeared so here's one I took at Duxford last month.

Gotta be the P-61 Blackwidow.  The Mid Atlantic Air Museum is restoring one. Go to www.maam.org and
click on the link called " the widows web " for more info.
