When was the last production (c/n 153) Sopwith Triplane delivered?

Hint - Hagar's photographed it, and most of you were born when it was delivered.

I won't say the answer, cos as I've seen it too many times in my lafetime, it may be a tad easy for me...

Actually, I will - no one's replied for a day - off the top of my head it was around 1992. Late production example, manufactured by the Northern Aeroplane Workshops, and inspected personally by Tommy Sopwith himself, hence the honour of being named a "late production" example...

Just the opportunity to post some of my latest ones.
[color=Blue][i]Northern Aeroplane Workshops built this example of the Sopwith Triplane for the Collection on an entirely voluntary basis. Sir Thomas Sopwith saw the Triplane while it was being constructed and claimed that it was so accurate that it could be considered as a one-off extension to his original production line. As such our Triplane is called a late production example and carries the serial number 153, which is one more than the last Triplane constructed in 1917.

The thing about T.O.M Sopwith is that he had fantastic taste.



The yacht broadside on is Endeavour, Americas cup challenger in 1934 and is the yacht that took Britain closest she's ever come to taking the cup. Sopwith owned and helmed her.

The other boat is Endeavour II, Americas cup challenger in 1937. Sopwith owned and helmed her too.

As a side note, when Sopwith built Endeavour II he sold Endeavour to a certain Richard Fairey. Proving that aviation men might have their jobs. But they have superior hobbies.
