Knowing some Latin American engineers (I've met two and both left me scared silly), the wings were probably being held on with gaffer tape and Wrigleys finest :(
Alas aircraft maintenance here isn't much better. I've seen a few things flying here that even I wouldn't get in, as frankly I doubt they'd reach a safe height for the parachute to open before falling to pieces :o

That probably accounts for the fact that in my Pilot Magazines they can be purchased for little more than the price of a top-dog Cessna 152....!
..mind you....
I wouldn't fancy paying to run and maintain that big radial up at the pointy end... ::)...!

...didn't I read somewhere in the news, a while ago, that the wings fell off an AN-2 during flight in South America.... ::)...!
...all those struts and wires... :'(...!
