Typhoon

The RAF have decided to buy Tranch 2 of the typhoon, a further 89 aircraft, good news for BAE SYSTEMS, the RAF and us spotters  ;) *que lots of library footage on local news so old it had DA2 when it was still grey*  8)

hmm you'd think with current world situations, defence would be a high priority..... mabey we should get a collection going, only what

Charlie, are you up at Warton? My dad was up there today with the Nimrod, saw a couple of Typhoons going about their business apparently.
As for the further 89, not surprising, still got a ton more to go before they come close to getting back what its cost them ::)

well enjoy it, brand new, although the autopilot has gone bust on it, supposed to be flying tomorrow however looking unlikely now

Ah well, wont be at home much tomorrow anyways. Good to see that flying too, arn't the RAF only getting like 4 updated or is there a large order now?

Nimrod Mr2 fleet's been cut from 21 to 18...

MRA4 order originally 18, probably looking at 12, possibly going to Waddington...

ah well, I'll have to go visit Kinloss sometime, and Leuchars in 2008 for typhoon.

Waddington? I hadnt heard about that yet. Why the move?

It's being decided at the moment, but don't expect to hear anything before new year, or until after the election (all to do with the Defence Airfield Review). It would be logical progression to have all of the RAF's Surveillance and intel aircraft in one place (E3D, Nimrod R1 + MRA4 and Sentinel) at a superbase, much in the same way all transport is moving to Brize...
