T-6 on the ramp

Postby wifesaysno » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:02 pm

This is the beautiful T-6 Texan that was on the ramp outside WACO Classic one morning. I tell you what, seeing a T-6 in the morning at work tends to make your day go well!  :)

Wonderful shots Adam...well done... ;)

I put several hundred hours including aerobatics, formation flights and contour flying on this:

http://www.spitcrazy.com/harvard.htm

I even flew a couple of competitions in one... ;D

The North American Harvard and the DeHavilland of Canada DHC-3 Otter used the same type of aircraft engine... :)

Both aircraft were underpowered but so were many others.
There was a large supply of Pratt and Whitney Canada R1340 engines available and I think that is why they were used.

Nothing like the sound of an Otter's Pratt and Whitney R1340 starting up at 05:30AM while sitting on a glassy water lake....
...the fish will jump out of the water to hear it
...the ducks, geese and loons will give you a fly-by
...the odd moose, dear and bear will watch from the waters
   edge with envy
...any campers will pull the covers over their pointy little
   heads
...but the old Stoneboat Swamper will be beaming with
   pride

Just imagine the sound of ten, twenty or more of these Harvards all starting up at the same time during the British Commonwealth Air Training Program here in Canada... ;)

Thanks for posting the shots Adam and see if you can get a ride in it...you will love it... ;)

Doug, I have actually experience at least double that many T-6s/SNJs/Harvards starting up, taking off, and flying together.....at.... Oshkosh! This past Airventure (the real name of the Oshkosh airshow) I witnessed a ~50 plane flight of T-6s do a low pass ~100ft off the deck right infront of the crowd down the show line. They were in flights of 4 (usual vic form) but each 4 lined up so row after row after row of them.

By the way, I was talking with a co worker later the morning the T-6 was there then suddenly there was a grumbling and the windows were shaking. Of course it turned out to be the Texan! lol

Wonderful Adam... :)

We have not been to Oshkosh "Airventure" in several years.

The last time we were there you could have cooked an egg on the tarmac, it was that hot... ;D

Will do Adam but it will not be this year... :)

The old girl wants to got back to do her tour of England, (the entire island), over to Ireland, on to Germany.

It is a six or seven week tour they do through the church and performing arts as they take in some shows.

Not for me.

I would like to get there to have a look at some old airfields so trying to work something out with the old girls group and then go off on my own.

I love the sound of a T-6 in the morning!

Down here in FL, there is a group of guys with T-6s that fly up and down the coastline doing rolls, loops, even some mock dogfighting! The sound of 5 or 6 T-6s flying together is fantastic!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Good looking shots. I have tried to upload a photo of one. Can't seem to get it to display. What do I need to do in order to have a photo appear? Thx.
