I have been at Pearl Harbor and was guided by a man who was there 1941.
It was some time ago now.
But what USA did in Japan was 1000 times worse.

Well they wouldn't have had to do to Japan what they did if Japan had not initiated the action. Oh but I see you claim to be in ESSA. Say no more.

Could you please tell us what that was the US did? I'm curious.

Let's assume that's not a serious question … ;)

Good. I wanted to be sure that you meant precisely that. I don't like assuming.

I agree the nuclear bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki was wrong. There was no need for it. I feel that Roosevelt and Truman were too eager to drop those bombs, especially to make a closing statement. One of those bombs was meant for Berlin but the Russians put an end to that need. And I believe the end of the European War gave Truman an exhilaration to declare to the Japanese at Potsdam that terrible destruction would occur if they didn't surrender immediately. Even Oppenheimer changed his mind and told the government not to do it.

Japan was almost spent, its military-age men almost gone. There was no future to the war, despite the Japanese swearing they would fight to the bitter end. Their mokusatsu response was not vague; the final clause of the statement indicated they would continue as before. I guess that's all the power Truman's trigger-finger needed. Both bombs were dropped...neither bomb was the reason the Japanese finally surrendered...it was because the Soviet Union broke their non-aggression pact, declared war on Japan and moved into mainland Asian territories which were occupied by Japan. Only that is when Japan accepted unconditional surrender; prior to that, after Nagasaki, they insisted to keep their emperor, a condition which was not acceptable.

So, you see, the bombs were not needed. Between 125,000 and 250,000 Japanese (more than 90% civilian) died both immediately and within the year of the blast and radiation poisoning; multitudes more would die of cancers and other related illnesses.

I respect your right to an opinion; however, I do not respect the spirit of shame and rhetoric in which both you and Bofredrick convey it. Certainly, you can be more constructive in making your point instead of being smug. Your posts provide no incentive for constructive dialogue.
