What if - Normandy?

Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based on the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.

Eisenhower had that speech prepared because many of his advisors thought the invasion only had about a 50:50 chance of success. Regardless, Germany was going to loose at that point no matter what. If they had delayed the inevitable they might have been the target for the first atom bomb.

Yes, we would have bombed the snot out of them but as we know from recent wars you can't win a war with air power alone.
