I love the internet!

Postby ozzy72 » Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:22 pm

So my mum has been doing lots of family tree stuff lately, she's traced her side of the family back as far as 1750. She started playing around with my dads and came across Great Uncle Leonard, whom we never met. A couple of calls later and we find out he was a POW and in the RAF during WWII.
So she passes this onto me to do some research as I do all the military history on this family project. Turns out (after a fun afternoon) that my Great Uncle Leonard Titmus was in the RAF, a rear-gunner on Lancasters, he was in 166 Squadron and was the sole survivor of the crew of PB135 when it was shot down on a mission to bomb Nuremberg on the 17th March 1945.
I've managed to find some records on the pilot (a New Zealander) Flt. Sgt. Eric Alexander Roy too.
Man but family history is interesting, we've gone from a name on the tree to quite a bit of history, I'm now trying to get his full service record O0 What a super Sunday!
Oh and I've even found a photo of PB135 on the internet!

My family are really lucky in that all our family have always kept records, letters, birth/death certificates, photographs, paintings, sketches, etc, of themselves through the generations.
The earliest records we have so far, are continuous from 1714; before that, the records were written in Latin and require more deciphering!
We have boxes of the stuff!
The roots of our family are here...>> http://fosbery.tripod.com/

My various Flight Sim excursions around parts of the World, always keep me interested in population movements....in particular...>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigratio ... ted_States

Paul...A very ancient Briton!... ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.
