Today/tonight marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking, a pivotal moment in history that saw a drastic change (particularly in the old world) and changed sea transportation forever.

The story of the RMS Titanic needs not to be re-told for she is commonly believed to be the most famous ship ever built despite only ever making one voyage.

Between the hours of 11:40pm and 2:20am on the night of April 14th-15th 1912, the Titanic, her passengers and her crew fought a long struggle for survival greater than any fictional drama. Long enough for countless stories of herorism and cowardice to be told but alas too short for rescue to be at hand.

Let us remember those 1500 souls that perished with her. May they rest in the oceans eternal depths. R.I.P

Yeah, it is highly unlikely that we shall ever know truly what the last song played was. The same can be said as to what became of Captain Edward J Smith. So many conflicting reports that it is likely to be lost forever.

(Self confessed Titanic geek here).

All I know for sure is that Francesco Schettino was not the captain of that vessel...

I have heard myths though, such as Titanic actually being a renamed version of her sister ship, Britannic (or Olympic) and that it was an insurance scam.


All I know, and all that matters, is that a ship set sail, known as Titanic, and found itself in a horrendous mess.


All I've learnt is that great claims require great backing, and the Titanic did not succeed. It is about 100 years to the minute that Titanic went down. A sad story, but great exploration never comes cheap.

I'm a bit of a Titanic Geek myself.

100 years.

An interesting fact is that the ship that came to Titanic's rescue the Carpathia was only designed to go 14 knots but on her way to rescue the survivors of Titanic she averaged 17 knots.

She is commonly believed to be the most famous ship ever built despite only ever making one voyage.

I wouldn't go that far.

I agree that all those ships are also famous but if you were to ask the common person on the street here in Australia about any of those ships, they would know none of them. Only Titanic is recognized.
