Plane of the week??

I would like to do a 'plane of the week' article on this forum with each week being a different plane and the history of that plane being discussed with links provided to any sim version of the aircraft.
I am extremely interested in aviation history (hence this being in history) and know a fare amount about a fare amount of aircraft. More importantly I want to know more about more!

So what do you folks think? I will take suggestions for aircraft to cover, but otherwise I will pick them from the full range of aircraft (early experimental to modern day)....maybe the Spitfire could be the first one, for ozzy of course!

One last thing, I am not saying I am an expert, so I will gladly take critiquing from others here on simV. I do not have the time to make it a very robust academic exercise, so do not expect research-paper level citations. I will include them where possible, but there is a fare amount I know from talking with aircraft owners, pilots, mechanics, and other means so citing those sources would be more difficult.

Okay, sorry for being long winded! I am seriously done now  :)

I for one think that is a wonderful idea... ;)

Just a few comments wahubna.

Why not do it chronologically (An arrangement of events in time)?

Do not forget Kites and Hot Air Balloons (just a tip as my grandson did something along the line you are thinking of doing...it took him many many months and it was a school project)

It will make a wonderful History and Educational Lesson for all of us here at Simviation and maybe you could have a separate forum or section for it if you are seriously going to get that involved (it will be a lot of work).

Perhaps you should communicate with Pete.

Good Luck... ;)

Balloons and kites eh? Well my knowledge of them is pretty nill. Although NO aviation history compilation is complete without discussing them!

I could go chronologically, but considering the number of aircraft that I know of off the top of my head, we are looking at at least 1 1/2 years before I even get to the '30s! So it might be fairly random, that way we wont have to wait years to get to the fantastic classics of the WW2 and post war era (and the odd balls like the Flying Pancake).

hmm...maybe I could go chronologically with specific types and/or nationalities of aircraft? Or maybe by maker?

About the time commitment, yes it would be a lot, but all my fellow students here at WMU can attest that I can ramble for HOURS on aviation history. So yes it would take a lot of time, but it would be a positive thing for me.

Oh, I always have a plan, it is just a matter of how intelligent it is!  ;D

Sounds like a great idea.

Maybe you should only pick memorable planes that did something important or pioneered something new?

And a few odd-ball planes as well. ;)

Well folks, I think I will carry on with this hair-brain idea. Unfortunately, this is the last month of the semester so my plate is very full. I will still be working on a few, starting with some WW2 legends (as in the Spitifire for ozzy) over the next couple of weeks.

I will post them in the 'specific aircraft type' section since each one will be on a specific aircraft. Note, I am taking suggestions on aircraft always and if you have any good links, pictures, or other ideas feel free to send me a PM.

So, over the next couple of weeks I will be compiling a few articles.
