November 22, 1963

If the date sounds familiar it is the day that John Kennedy died.

Did you know it was also the day that Anthony Burgess, Aldous Huxley, and C.S. Lewis died?

Like most people who were around at the time it's one of those days I shall never forget.

Not sure why you posted this today though.

I ran across it recently and didn't think I'd remember it in November.

Another reminder of my somber month of birth: colder temperatures, barren trees, threats of snow, murdered turkeys (the once-naturally-feathered variety) and the few songs thereof (The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald [Gordon Lightfoot], as well as an old one @ the last two island swans, One Last Cold Kiss [sung by Mountain ?])...

Mentioning presidents, to shift the scenery, two signers of the Declaration of Indepedence also shared in becoming U.S. presidents; relative to the signing, for what else did they have a timely share?

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

James Monroe, 5th president of the US but not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, died on July 4, 1831.

If ever time stood still, it was on that day.

I remember watching the funeral proceedings on TV. I was not yet six. I had no idea what the JFK assassination would portend for the future of the country and the world. I doubt anybody else did, either...

45 years ago today.  An event to this day unfathomable and controversial.  I was in 10th grade at the time.

Ironically, it was the advent of the Beatles, of all things, starting in very early 1964, that kind of brightened up America for a bit during the cold, dismal days following 11.22.63.  We needed something good, they provided it.

We all know the history of the rest of the '60's.  Not the best of times.

PBS has been running the American Experience series on the Presidents.  Excellent, informative, and very objective.

I don't recall seeing/hearing/reading a news story about it this year.
