Thought Id mention

some other September first/last events....
In 1939, Poland was visited by an army of well-dressed but very unruly German tourists.
In 1943, a (former) floatplane became the first aircraft made into a submarine by F6F Hellcat pilots because it couldn't take their riddling..
In 1945, Tokyo welcomed a few 'western alliance' float craft. Among them were the carriers HMS Ruler, HMS Speaker, USS Bataan and USS Cowpens ("The Mighty Moo"): the battleships HMS Duke of York, HMS King George, USS Colorado, USS Idaho, USS Iowa, USS Mississippi, USS New Mexico, USS South Dakota, USS West Virginia and the Japanese hierarchy was invited aboard the USS Missouri for a special, most formal, post-nuclear procession. There were also cruisers, destroyers, supply ships, submarines and various landing craft.
