Happy Birthday EU

Postby expat » Fri Mar 23, 2007 3:57 am

The European Union is telling us that it is 50 years old and a few parties are planed here and their..........................However, I would disagree and say that the EU is only 15 years old. Why, well, the EU was established in 1992 by the Treaty on European Union (The Maastricht Treaty), and is the de facto successor to the six-member European Economic Community founded in 1957. One was defunct and the other was then established.

So birthday or propaganda?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Probably both, its image isnt what it used to be i suppose.

Your almost right, not quite so. I definately think the foundations of the EU were founded in 1957, but yeah, its current form has been esteblished in 1992. Back then the Euro also got launched, wich can be a symbol for the establishment of the EU.

You could argue it is only 82 days old as it was on Jan. 1st that Romania and Bulgaria joined ;D
Methinks it is just another pathetic excuse by the plutocrats in Brussels to waste money on themselves ::)
