Tomorrow it is 62 years ago, that 9.343 people drowned in the Baltic seas ice cold water.
Last week I promised to proof, why we never had a greater time than now. and because of that, I have to ask you to open a wound. that wound is 62 years old tomorrow, and I'm gonna bet, that you aren't celebrating this day in any way, which is odd, because it happened in our own backyard. 115 kilometres east of Nex

And in a way it was their fault. oh yes, they started the bloody war six years earlier, and the hate was overwhelming in the last months of the war.
Because they started it. and now they had to pay the price.
Gimme a break.
If someone started a war, it was the idiot(s) in the high positions.

Precisely. Nothing new there then.

Stupid it may have been. But war is war and do you really think that the sub captain knew what was on board? Casualty figures are pretty small compared to events such as Hiroshima, Dresden and Warsaw.

I don't know if he was stupid so much as vengeful, as were many
Russians at the time.
Perhaps he was from Stalingrad... no excuse, but a compelling reason.
And no, I don't want to get into one of those "which nation's military was more sporting during such-and-such a war" debates... I'll happily accept defeat by default on such a debate; there's no way to win, because every flag on Earth is stained with innocent blood.

I didn't find smileys fitting into the context, so I didn't.
But I could had left a note, that explained that it was sarcasm.
Got to remember that to next time I'll post something this big..
Cheers Theis

Quotation marks could have been a solution, too.

You could parenthesis or asterick to a footnote, "sorry for the sarcasm" (which, in itself may be a bit sarcastic since sarcasm is the intent; it may alleviate pressure on both sides of the coin, though). Just as long as you keep within the 5500 character format
.
Quotation marks could have been a solution, too.
For you, that may have sufficed; others may only see it as an act of emphasis. You were born to and are within the area upon which so much accumulated blame was placed, even as an excuse to justify similar actions upon it. A presupposed attitude of "I'm being attacked again" may well be prevalent, sometimes obscuring the true intent of an outsider. The intrerpretation is then compounded by the fact that was proven in WW2, although too often quite overlooked due to the blame factor, but can be applied to any group of people: not all Germans think the same.8-)
