The bikini was first introduced to a stunned public on this day 60 years ago... meanwhile topless girls in the South Pacific no doubt shrugged and wondered what all the fuss was about...

Who remembers the significance of the name "Bikini", and why it was chosen at that time? ;)

The french designer of the Bikini thought that it had the same type of impact as the test detonations (nuclear weapons) at Bikini Atoll.

He may have been right.

That's a sad analogy -- that type of blast usually leaves many more tiny pieces surrounding and nothing inside...
