Dreadnought tidbits....

I was re-reading "Castles of Steel" again .... (basically WW1 through the eyes of the British and German Navies).

I find it interesting that the HMS Dreadnought, (which would have been 100 years old this year) the first of the all-heavy guns battleships (which is why they're called "dreadnoughts"), while serving in WW1, missed out on all the major actions for one reason or another - (Dogger Bank, Jutland, etc) and it's only "action"  was the ramming of a U-boat in the end months of the war..

Unbeknown to the admiralty, the Dreadnaught's captain was actually a pacificist: he was only trying to hitch a ride on that little unterseeboot :-[ ;)!
