Well today is the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII.
It is also the 65th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Britain.
And on this day 20 years ago President Mitterand authorised the French Secret Service to sink the Rainbow Warrior in New Zealand killing one of the crew.
Quite a busy day really :o

Wha?

In the UK we've been given a new day to commemorate the end of the war in Europe and in the Pacific, at a random date in July (10th)!

I've been dredging through my brain and cannot find a single reason why this date has been chosen. Have they just taken the mean between VE and VJ day or something? May 8th did perfectly well for me. :P

Even though people were killed in this I cannot feel sadness as Green peace are but eco friendly terrorists. If only more governments had the guts to do the same.

money saving measures. Cant have these ageing veterans having too many days honoring them now ::) :-/
The cheer the Lancaster Spit and hurricane got was pretty amazing. Can only imagine what it was like in person.

Flypast = very expensive = Flying Legends = Biggest gathering of (twin engined) WWII aircraft in Europe...

...and (a chance of) better weather...

...and half the cost of two events.

Pardon me for being cynical. Parliament is still in session. The powers-that-be aren't on their holidays yet. ::)
